Things to Consider Before Building a Home
If you have just gotten married and are about to start a family, you have to get a home of your own. The next big decision then comes– should you rent a home or build one?
If you have enough savings to build one, you should then plan on how much you are willing to spend for your new home. Pour over this important detail as your budget will fuel the entire construction. Once you have finally decided the actual amount, create a design scheme in your head or better yet, you can make a sketch of that. List down the things that you would like to include in your house taking into account your hobbies and activities. If you have certain pieces of art that you want to put out for show, you might want to have a display room. Have certain rooms customized for your needs and wants. Your home design must also fit your taste and lifestyle quality.
The next phase would be your search for a good architect. A list of architects is available on the web. When you have narrowed down your list, try and meet each of them with your specifications on hand. Inform him of your personal preferences for certain materials. Some people prefer having stone and bricks in their homes while some like the sultry effect of wood. You should also tell him the time frame you would like the design, calculation, house and floor plan to be finished.
Ask your chosen architect if he could refer you to builders. He might have worked with several in the past. It would be best for your architect to work with ones he has already worked with in the past. In that case, they would have already established a good, strong working relationship. However, if the builders he recommends are way out of your budget try looking up a list of some in the internet.
Go out and personally meet with your builder along with your architect so that together, they could give you various home designs and styles to choose from. Depending on your personal taste and the place where you want to put up your home, you may want to build a house inspired by Victorian, Mediterranean, Contemporary, Asian, or Rustic design, or even a combination of any of these. Just be certain that you tell them of your budget limitations for the entire house, since it would be quite disappointing to plan one that is actually way out of your price range.
In addition to that, it would be good to have budget laid out for each room in the house. Bear in mind that the most expensive areas are the bathrooms and the kitchen because of the hidden fixtures such as pipes and air chambers. As expensive are the high end countertops and flooring that are always needed for these rooms.
These tips will surely help you plan your way towards building a dream home for you and your family. Don’t forget to always relate your thoughts and ideas to your architect and builder, even those that are unusual and bizarre. Because that at the end of the day, it is you who will be residing in your own home so it would be foolish to leave any detail, no matter how small, unopened.
